Seagrass Ecology

Seagrass Ecology

The seagrass beds are home to a variety of species, but one of the most important to Palauan women fishers is the sea cucumber. Harvested for market and sustenance, the population has been declining. In an effort to keep the balance and ensure a healthy population remains in Ngarchelong, Ebiil Society began a program to create a small-scale hatchery for sea cucumbers.

Recently, these seedlings were released into the sea grass beds in Ollei to help re-populate these areas.
