Sea Cucumber Babies?

Sea cucumber babies – an. idea conceived in late 2019 has finally come to life!  Ebiil Society is currently spawning and nursing semum and sea cucumber at Marine Resources for purpose of reseeding the ocean in a partnership between Ebiil Society and the Bureau of Marine Resources.

When this photo was taken on November 19, 2020, these babies were approximately one month old. Semum has been a popular harvest species as the shells were exported for buttons over the years and the meat is consumed locally. Sea cucumbers actually have two purposes. For one, they held filter sediment to protect the inner reef and another, they are a popular delicacy for sustenance and to be sold in markets.
